I've had anxiety for most of my life.  It's something that I've grown accustomed to, but it doesn't mean that it doesn't impact me, everyday, even when traveling.

As I've traveled and met more and more people, I've noticed that a lot of people have anxiety.  I used to think that something was wrong with me and that I was the only one.  So I made this page as a resource for travelers who also deal with anxiety.

Everyone's anxiety is different.  This page is meant to be a resource, comfort, or source of support and not be a page in place of therapy.

This is one of my favorite visuals for deep breathing.  It's simple and follows the size of your lungs.   It's simple to use, deep breath in while the shapes form, and deep breath out as the shapes go away.  Your heart rate will naturally decrease as you do this.  If you're doing it without a visual, it's 6 counts in, 6 counts out.

I'll be honest.  Meditation was something that took me a LONG time to get into.  However, when I finally committed, and I did it every day for a month, I fell in love with it.  There was a preconceived notion that you are supposed to not think of anything.   If you have anxiety - you have NO IDEA what this means.   Let's challenge that with the idea of meditation is not a lack of thoughts, but rather a controlled thinking process.   The thought comes in, we acknowledge it, and we let it go (I know- I make it sound easy).  Start with 2 minutes and go from there.  Use the visual above to control your breathing.  It gets easier the more you do it, and eventually you'll be able to do it for 30 minutes or an hour.    If sitting in silence isn't your thing, that's okay.  There's guided meditation and meditation music available.  My favorite guided meditation is for sleep - floating in space - and is below.   Jason Stephenson uploads so much content that varies from music, guided meditation for mornings or for sleep, and his voice is so relaxing.  Be sure to explore his other videos on his youtube page - and subscribe for updates!
